About faux finish & decorative painting

Decorative finishes are the difference between a painted room and a designed room. Venetian plaster, limewash, color washing, and metallic accents add depth, texture, and movement that flat paint cannot.

Our decorative crew is separate from our standard painters — these are artisans with 10+ years of plaster and faux finish experience. Every project starts with a sample board so you see the exact finish before we commit a wall.

What's included

  • Sample board with your exact finish and colors
  • Wall prep to a smooth Level-5 finish
  • Tinted base coat
  • Multiple decorative coats applied by hand
  • Burnishing, polishing, or distressing as the finish requires
  • Sealer coat for washability

Our process

  1. 1

    Sample board

Every project starts with a 2'x2' sample board in your exact finish, colors, and lighting. We don't paint a wall until you approve the sample.

  2. 2

    Level-5 wall prep

Decorative finishes telegraph every imperfection. We skim walls to a Level-5 finish first.

  3. 3

    Hand-applied finish

Every coat is applied by hand by a dedicated artisan. Venetian plaster, limewash, and metallics are not roller-applied finishes.

  4. 4

    Sealer & walkthrough

A final sealer coat makes the finish washable. You walk every wall with the artisan before we leave.

Frequently asked questions

+What's the difference between Venetian plaster and limewash?

Venetian plaster is a polished, marble-like finish with depth and sheen. Limewash is a matte, mottled finish with old-world texture. We do both and can show you samples.

+Can these finishes be washed?

Yes — every decorative finish gets a sealer coat that makes it washable with a damp cloth.

+Is this more expensive than regular paint?

Yes — typically 3–8x the cost per square foot. But it's transformative on accent walls, ceilings, and entryways.

+What's included in the warranty?

Every job carries our 10-year workmanship warranty. If the finish peels, blisters, or cracks within ten years, we return and re-coat the affected area at no charge.

+What paints do you use?

Sherwin-Williams Emerald and Benjamin Moore Aura by default. Zero-VOC alternatives (Natura, Harmony) are available at no upcharge.

+Are you licensed and insured?

Yes — fully licensed in every state we serve, with $2M general liability and workers' comp on every crew.
